Yamhill County, the center of Oregon's Pinot Noir production since the 1970s, is a beautiful landscape that is both welcoming to the eyes and calming to the soul. Most of the County is no more than an hour's drive southwest from downtown Portland. Gently rolling hills, lushly green in springtime and sere tan and brown after the long warm days of late summer, are covered with firs, oaks, and, of course, Pinot Noir vines. Because of our cool climate, only certain south-facing hillsides are favored for winegrapes, leaving vineyard interspersed with forest and orchard. The County is increasingly known as a destination for wine lovers, without the crowds and traffic of our neighbors south of the border. The winery sits at the southern end of a range of hills overlooking the Coast Range and the small (and friendly) town of Carlton. Visit the Lemelson Vineyards website.
