The 2017 Assobio red is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz (just a bit heavy on the Nacional). Only about 20% of the blend was aged in well-used French oak for six months. It comes in at 13.2% alcohol. Nicely balanced, this has some intensity and purity of fruit flavor, but it finishes dry and with a rather serious feel. The tannins are very ripe, but this does have some structure. It has some firmness on the finish. A cut above, it's not an overly simple and fruity regular Tinto. It should hold nicely for several years. It is not the type of wine you need to age, though.

Cherry and red plum flavors are marked with licorice and mineral accents in this plump red, with tangy acidity accentuating the violet and spice details on the moderately tannic finish. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. Drink now through 2022. 51,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported.

A blend of classic Douro grapes, this ripe, open wine is soft with light tannins and plenty of rich berry fruits. It is easy, fruity and ready to drink now. - Roger Voss
