Wine AdvocateThe star of the show among La Lecciaia's new releases is the mid weight 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. A little slow to open, the wine shows power and depth followed by a pretty embroidery of varietal aromas. This wine is focused on the small details and the finer nuances. Lingering aromas of wild berry, toasted nut, smoke, wet earth, cola and balsam herb add brightness and buoyancy to the bouquet. There is a dry mineral note on the finish that serves to give weight and definition. The wine reveals tight tannins and a silky feel. I suggest giving this Riserva another few years to reach integration.
Wine EnthusiastAromas of dark-skinned berry, leather and truffle take shape in the glass. The full-bodied palate doles out fleshy wild cherry, orange zest, licorice, clove and coffee bean while notes of chopped mint lift the finish. Firm fine-grained tannins give it structure and finesse. Drink 2018-2028.
Wine SpectatorThe nose is subdued, but on the palate this is dense and packed with black cherry, plum, bittersweet chocolate and herb flavors. Compact finish. Best from 2018 through 2028. 1,600 cases made.
