Deep-colored, dark red center with just a hint of age showing through on the dark red rim. The backbone provided by the large Touriga Nacional component is evident in the fragrant, floral nose of roses and violets. The palate is generous and sumptuous with black fruit and licorice flavors, balanced by schist tannins and the fresh acidity typical of Warre's bottle-matured wines, giving them hallmark balance and elegance, as well as structure. This wine may be broached now, although it is repay keeping for up to a further decade. Bottled with a driven cork(as with Vintage Port), the bottle should be stored horizontally and somewhere with a cool, constant temperature. As the wine is unfiltered, it will create a natural deposit and should therefore be decanted before serving. Stand the bottle upright about half an hour before pulling the cork and pour the wine into a decanter until the first traces of sediment appear. This Port accompanies a wide selection of cheeses, such as blue cheese (Stilton, Roquefort, etc) as well as sweet desserts and dark chocolate.

This has matured nicely, settling in with a mix of mulled black currant and plum fruit, carried by a finely grained alder spine and backed by a warm Christmas pudding note. Drink now through 2023. 7,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.

The latest LBV from this estate, the 2008 Late Bottled Vintage Port is primarily Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca that spent four years in wood and was bottled in 2012. From a cooler vintage, it's made in a more seamless, elegant style yet still has beautiful depth of fruit, with classic plum, jammy blackberry, spice box, chocolate, and cigar aromatics all emerging from the glass. It holds up beautifully with air, has medium to full-bodied richness, a solid spine of acidity, and a great finish. It's a beautiful, elegant LBV that's drinking great today yet will easily evolve for another decade.

The 2008 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a new and currently available submission, although hardly a new wine. It is a traditional Douro field blend, bottled unfiltered in 2012 with a long cork. It comes in with 109 grams per liter of residual sugar. In this elegant vintage, this is what one might expect from an aging, traditional LBV. It is graceful, elegant in the mid-palate-yes, perhaps a bit thin at this point in its life-and expressive. It tastes great. The power is mostly resolved here, given its age. It is fairly soft and round at this juncture. Yet it also has just enough energy to seem reasonably bright and vibrant. Age also has its advantages, of course-there are complex nuances around the edges. This is more interesting than a young LBV would be. This is a great time to drink this, and today I like it a lot. It is drinking perfectly right now, and it isn't going to get better. It was a little diminished the next day. This is a good, not a great vintage for this. Beware-it has heavy sediment. Pour carefully.
