Francois Villard Le Gallet Blanc 2015
|Region||France, Rhone, Cote Rotie|
This gushes with boysenberry, plum and blackberry confiture flavors, but a tobacco-wrapped iron girder strides through the middle, keeping everything well-harnessed while dark earth and roasted apple wood details check in on the finish. There's lots to like here. Best from 2020 through 2035. 2,500 cases made.
Whiffs of pine fronds, dried thyme and bramble lend a herbaceous tone to ripe but restrained black cherry and plum in this wine. Brightly concentrated with firm acidity, it has tight, taut tannins that reverberate on the finish. Still a bit closed it should open nicely from 2021 and continue to improve through 2035.
