#17 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2019
Bright ruby red colour with purple highlights. Thanks to the harmony of the tannins, combined with the delicate complexity of aromas and the final note of sweetness, the wine is characterised by an excellent balance in the mouth. A very versatile wine, ideally paired with structured main dishes. It also goes well with stewed dishes and medium-aged cheeses.

A beam of pure cherry and blackberry fruit defines this intense, racy red, which is firm and tensile, with fine balance and a lingering aftertaste of vibrant fruit, graphite and tobacco flavors. Sangioveto and Canaiolo. Drink now through 2033. 10,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported.

Slightly soft and sweet, the 2017 Chianti Classico (made with 95% Sangioveto and 5% Canaiolo, aged in tonneaux for a brief seven months) is a child of a hot vintage. The bouquet shows some over-ripeness with blackberry and cherry confit. This simple wine ends with pretty earth notes on the close. Drink this wine within the next 18 months. As I have stated elsewhere, I'm not a huge fan of the heavy ripeness you often see in wines from this hot and dry vintage. Some 110,000 bottles were made.
