A first taste offers notes of crisp red fruit, damp soil, violets, and button mushroom before giving way to a lively and lingering finish, marked by prominent-yet-approachable tannins. It’s no surprise that forward-thinking Burgundy lovers (and Burgundians themselves) took notice of Oregon’s potential for exceptional Pinot Noir.

La Source is produced from the vines at the top of the property at over 200m elevation. The structure is firmly tannic from a bit of stem inclusion. Still, for the most part, the winemaking is smoothly polished and preserves an exuberant fruit while delivering a firmly concentrated wine with impressive persistence. The finished wine shows incredibly ripe blackberry and cassis fruit with a pronounced minerality and a saline character that comes through on the nose and the palate.

A wine of precision and dimension, this is buoyed by a vibrant acidic, tannic backbone and framed by bright cherry and forest floor accents, which build richness toward the refined tannins. Drink now through 2031.

The aromas are reduced out of the gate. Beyond that are appealing notes of brown stem and spice. The palate brings flavors of freshly brewed tea, tangerine and dark cherry. They are full in feel, with abundant cherry notes and cinnamony tannins. There's a freshness that ups the enjoyment, along with a sense of purity. This is much more about the future than the present. It has a very, very long life ahead of it. Best after 2027, but whenever you open it, you're in for a real treat.

The 2018 Pinot Noir La Source is ripe, with notions of berry jam, fruitcake and aniseed on the nose. The palate is full, lush and ripe but brighter and more lifted than the nose leads you to expect, and it finishes long and flavorful.
