Château Bourdieu N°1 is an audacious wine. It is with this wine that Luc Schweitzer has grasped the potential of the Bourdieu soils. Far from being a micro-vintage, N°1 denotes elegance according to Luc Schweitzer: soils on sunny hillsides and an abundance of a delicate woody aroma. A balanced wine but nevertheless startling, true to its roots and at the image of the winegrower.

Pristine definition of pure and driving damson, cherry and plum, with understated vanilla oak. Deep and long, the palate reveals a cascade of fleshy black fruits over ripe, fine-grained tannins and fruit-bonded acidity. Lovely stuff. 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec

This wine has dense tannins that partner the ripe black fruits. With its full-bodied dark-plum flavors and texture that is smoothing out, the wine has weight, richness and a good future. Drink from 2023.

Aromas of dark plums, dried herbs, mushrooms and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. It has juicy, savory character with a creamy texture. Merlot, cabernet sauvignon and malbec. Drink or hold.

In the same qualitative ballpark as the 2018, the 2019 Château Bourdieu N1 has a deeper ruby hue as well as a meaty, mouth-filling, medium-bodied style including classic notes of ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, leather, and assorted spices. The balance is spot on, it has terrific purity, and it possesses the structure and class to evolve for a solid decade. Best after 2022.
