Azelia Barolo 2021

Expressive flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose, menthol and earth highlight this dense, tightly wound red. Tightens up on the finish for now, yet theres plenty of succulent fruit locked up. Best from 2030 through 2050. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.

Deep, spicy red-fruit character on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied and firm, so give it a couple of years to open up. There’s a lot under the surface.

Luigi Scavino's classic Barolo shows a sweet spot on the bouquet with baked cherry and sweet plum. The Azelia 2018 Barolo does not show the depth or complexity of past vintages; however, the wine offers lots of basic Nebbiolo crispness and plenty of wild berry flavors. There are earthy notes on the close with some light spice.

Moving to the Barolo selections from Azelia, the 2021 Barolo is detailed and spicy on the nose with lifted notes of licorice, dried cherries, dried mint, and thyme. It’s a mid-weight offering with an easygoing and more weightless feel, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink over the next few years.
