Like the 2016, the 2017 Tobiano is more nervy and linear than past vintages. Pinot Noir in the Kingston vineyard likes being extracted with a light hand. The color is light garnet red. It smells of red fruits, with light herbal notes and a lovely juicy mouthfeel. It says drink me!

Sharp berry and tire rubber aromas need airing to settle. On the palate, this is tight and lean, but fit and sinewy. Savory plum, cranberry and wood spice flavors finish a touch salty but with energy and elegance.

The first of two Pinot Noirs I tasted was the 2017 Pinot Noir Tobiano, produced in a lighter and more approachable way, with red fruit and a soft palate. There's medium acidity, denoting a warm vintage, and perfectly integrated oak. 8,773 bottles were filled in December 2017.
